Option for external GNSS positioning on ABEM Terrameter LS 2 now released

The ABEM Terrameter LS 2 can now receive GNSS (global navigation satellite system) positioning data from an external device. This is in response to customer requests for more accurate global co-ordinates than those provided by the onboard GNSS receiver. An external GNSS will provide better representation of stations during static measurements, and help facilitate mobile measurements. Any grade of GNSS unit (provided it can output an industry-standard GGA NMEA string) can be attached to a Terrameter LS 2 via the USB port on the end panel.

In order to use an external device, update the Terrameter LS 2 instrument software to version 2.7.1 (or later). Next, simply select “External” on the GPS settings tab of the instrument and it will automatically detect the communication settings and begin using the external feed.
